When I heard that the Catholic church in front of my son’s nursery school was going to be demolished, I became very interested as I always do with abandoned spaces. Its architecture and triangular design had always impressed me. It seemed that the church had become too big for the lack of mass attenders and that its maintenance had become unsustainable. I contacted the community that managed the church and they agreed to my desire to document its dismantling and demolition. Once it was demolished I thought that its former users might want to say goodbye to it, and I organized a sort of performative tribute that took place on August 31, 2013 in the open space resulting from the demolition. About 150 people participated in the homage.
The sacred character of a space is the result of a process of a mental addition to that space. Nothing is sacred in itself, sacredness does not stem from the physical world. The physical, in that sense, is always profane and vulnerable to the passage of time, as it needs mental addition. Some of these thoughts and sensations wandered in my mind during the production process of this work.

|english|The city Steinbach was quiet. People were silent and had lanterns in their hands. In the same place where there used to be a church not long ago, we were witnesses of how small tents made of cloth began to emerge from the earth. When it got dark the tents became illuminated from the inside. Light means life. You are and bring the light. 150 people took part in this very special moment on Saturday 31 August, exactly where St. Bonifatiuskirche used to be: 27 Untergasse, Steinbach. They all participated in the performance, which encouraged us to think about our future and how to make it more human.
