En el 2014 me pidieron representar a mi ciudad en un intercambio de artistas con la ciudad hermanada de Saint Avertin (Francia). Un artista de Saint Avertin expondría en Steinbach y yo haría lo mismo en la población francesa.

Cuando llegó el momento viajé hasta el lugar para preparar y montar la exposición. Una vez allí y con la exposición ya montada, me prendé de la historia del castillo de Cangé, perteneciente al distrito municipal de Saint Avertin, y pedí al ayuntamiento si podían prolongarme la estancia porque estaba interesada en realizar un obra inspirada en el castillo, ahora reconvertido en mediateca municipal. Aceptaron mi propuesta.

Del castillo de Cangé me atrajeron varias circunstancias. Construido en el s. XIII había sido testigo del paso del feudalismo a la edad moderna y de las dos guerras mundiales que asolaron Europa en el sXX. Después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial su propietario lo dejó en abandono, hasta que un incendio lo devastó la noche del 20 de junio de 1978. En 1980 la propiedad fue adquirida por el ayuntamiento de Saint Avertin con la intención de restaurar el castillo y convertirlo en un centro de interés cultural. Durante mis visitas al castillo me llamó la atención el verlo siempre rodeado de niños, y es que los colegios organizaban allí todo tipo de actividades, convirtiéndolo en un lugar habitual de cultura y recreo. La juventud de la mayoría de los visitantes contrastaba con los ocho siglos de historia del lugar.

En esta obra volví a trabajar sobre la imagen y su contenido, sobre la apariencia y el paso del tiempo, siempre presente en mi trabajo. ¿La imagen no es imagen-tiempo también? ¿La imagen no es también espacio? La reforma del castillo se superpuso al paso de los siglos, y tenía la sensación de que, intentando acercarme a su historia, él más se alejaba de mí, sin dejarse atrapar. Pensé en la infancia y en la edad adulta, pensé que conforme vamos creciendo y adentrándonos en la vida tenemos la paradójica sensación de que la vida se va alejando de nosotros.

Esta obra ha fue adquirida por el centro, puede ser visitada de forma permanente y forma parte del fondo de arte contemporáneo de la mediateca.

In 2014 I was asked to represent my city of birth, Steinbach (Germany), in an exchange of artists with our sister city, Saint Avertin (France). An artist from Saint Avertin would exhibit in Steinbach and I would do the same in the French town.

When the time came, I travelled to the site to prepare and set up the exhibition. Once there and with the exhibition already set up, I was fascinated by the history of the Château de Cangé, which belongs to the municipal district of Saint Avertin, and I asked the town council if they could extend my stay because I was interested in making a work inspired by the Château, which has now been converted into a municipal media library. They accepted my proposal.

I was attracted to the Castle of Cangé for several reasons. Built in the 13th century, it had witnessed the passage from feudalism to modern age and the two world wars that devastated Europe in the 20th century. After the Second World War, its owner abandoned it until a fire destroyed it on the night of June 20, 1978. In 1980 the property was acquired by the town council of Saint Avertin with the intention of restoring the castle and turning it into a centre of cultural interest. During my visits to the castle, I was struck by the fact that it was always surrounded by children because schools organized all kinds of activities there, making it a regular place of culture and recreation. The youth of most of the visitors contrasted with the eight centuries of history of the place.

In this work I dealt again with aspects such as image and its content, and appearance and the passage of time, always present in my work. Isn’t the image also image-time? Isn’t the image also space? The refurbishment of the castle changed the results of the passage of centuries on the castle, and I had the feeling that, trying to get closer to his story, the building was moving away from me, without allowing me to fully understand it. I thought about childhood and adulthood, I considered that as we grow up and move through life, we have the paradoxical feeling that life is moving away from us.
