No es tarea fácil hablar de las prácticas de la cerámica actual en un lugar contextualizado como la ciudad de L’Alcora. L’Alcora es un pequeño municipio de unos 10 000 habitantes perteneciente a la provincia de Castellón. L’Alcora es un enclave importante en la producción y exportación de baldosas en toda España y en el extranjero. Es un municipio de gran tradición cerámica que alcanzó su máximo nivel con la Real Fábrica del Conde de Aranda, considerada como la mejor cerámica europea del siglo XVIII. Bajo su influencia, durante los siglos XIX y XX se desarrolló un sector industrial dedicado a la producción de azulejos que hoy en día es el verdadero motor económico de la provincia de Castellón, ya que produce el 90 % de la producción nacional de pavimentos y revestimientos cerámicos. Esta tradición se hace visible en murales cerámicos repartidos por el núcleo urbano y en emplazamientos en los que está presente e interpretado el patrimonio industrial cerámico; por ejemplo, el Museo de Cerámica de L’ Alcora, dedicado a la producción de cerámica del S. XVIII procedente de la Real Fábrica, la tradición alfarera local y obras vanguardistas de ceramistas de todo el mundo del Concurso Internacional de Cerámica de L’ Alcora (CICA), así como la Nave de los Hornos de la Real Fábrica, con sus tres hornos redondos de doble cámara de cocción de finales del siglo XVIII, que han cocido la famosa cerámica, declarada Bien de Interés Cultural como sitio histórico.

«LA FÁBRICA DE TUS SUEÑOS», más focalizado en el trabajo performativo y Site-specific, se ha relacionado directamente con la Real Fábrica, donde se han llevado a cabo hasta tres intervenciones, dos de ellas en las cámaras de cocción dobles de finales del siglo XVIII, y la obra RODILLOS en la nave rehabilitada donde se encuentran los antiguos raíles de hierro que se utilizaban para transportar la arcilla. Atraída por la confrontación entre lo industrial y lo histórico, la propuesta hace visible ciertas temáticas entorno a la memoria y el patrimonio. Revisa los procesos de trabajo propios de la cerámica, visibiliza la propia producción, para hablarnos de la desaparición y de la lucha constante por la permanencia.

«LA FÁBRICA DE TUS SUEÑOS» es el título del proyecto becado en CeramicRES 2024, Residencia de creación Cerámica Contemporánea organizado por Co-net_ y la Escuela Superior de Cerámica de L’ESCAL.

It is no easy task to talk about current ceramic practices in a contextualised place like the town of L’ Alcora. L’ Alcora is a small town of about 10,000 inhabitants in the province of Castellón

L’Alcora is an important enclave in the production and export of tiles throughout Spain and abroad. It is a municipality with a great ceramic tradition that reached its peak with the Royal Factory of the Count of Aranda, considered to be the best European ceramics of the 18th century. Under its influence, during the 19th and 20th centuries, an industrial sector dedicated to the production of tiles developed, which today is the real economic engine of the province of Castellón, producing 90% of the national production of ceramic floor and wall tiles.This tradition is visible in ceramic murals scattered throughout the town centre and in places where the industrial ceramic heritage is present and interpreted; for example, the Museum of Ceramics of Alcora, dedicated to the production of ceramics from the 18th century from the Royal Factory, the local pottery tradition and avant-garde works by ceramists from all over the world from the International Ceramics Competition of Alcora (CICA). Attracted by the confrontation between the industrial and the historical, the proposal makes visible certain themes related to memory and heritage. It revisits the work processes involved in ceramics and makes the production itself visible in order to talk about disappearance and the constant struggle for permanence.

‘LA FÁBRICA DE TUS SUEÑOS’ (THE FACTORY OF YOUR DREAMS) is the title of the project awarded a grant in CeramicRES 2024, Contemporary Ceramics Creation Residency organised by Co-net_ and the Escuela Superior de Cerámica de L’ESCAL.
